- _Dancehall (2012)_ (qv) is adapted from a 1982 novel of the same name written by 'Bernard F. Conners' (qv) which was first optioned in the 1980s by 'Francis Ford Coppola' (qv)'s American Zoetrope studio. After about a decade the rights reverted back to the author. Producer 'Edwin Graham' (qv) reached out to Conners in the early 1990s and was able to secure the rights to make the film.

- Lake Placid's already-established international draw, along with an economic incentive from the state, were key factors in deciding to shoot _Dancehall (2012)_ (qv) entirely in upstate New York.

- _Dancehall (2012)_ (qv) is based on a best-selling mystery novel inspired by a real incident. In 1963, a woman's body was discovered by a group of divers, right off rocky cliffs of Pulpit Rock, not far from the Lake Placid Marina, New York. Eventually it was identified as Mabel Douglass, founder and the first dean of New Jersey College for Women -- now Douglass College, part of Rutgers University --, who had disappeared after a solo outing in a rowboat on Lake Placid 30 years earlier.
